Broccoli Pasta Primavera, a la Rocco

Today we had a big Italian lesson. We learnt how to cook Broccoli Pasta Primavera. Broccoli is an Italian word and Primavera means spring in Italian. It's a very simple recipe, it's from an Italian man called Rocco. Lots of us thought we wouldn't like it but we were brave and tried it and... we LOVED it!!

The ingredients were:
broccoli,
pasta (we used spaghetti),
parmesan,
salt,
pepper and
olive oil.

That's all! We added a secret ingredient... broccoli flowers from the school garden. We sprinkled them on top at the end with the parmesan and we used up all the parmesan and the flowers. It was so delicious!! We've put up the recipe in case you want to try it yourself.

English
Boil some water with a pinch of salt, put the chopped broccoli in, wait till they're half to way to tender (~5min), then pour the pasta straight into the same boiling water.

Keep boiling pasta and broccoli till pasta is ready (and broccoli hopefully are just soft without having fallen apart).

Then get the water out (strain it) and add olive oil, parmesan and pepper.

Italian
Bolli l'acqua per la pasta in una pentola. Taglia i broccoli a dadetti, mettili nell'acqua e lascia bolllire finche i broccoli incominciano a bollire.

Butta la pasta (preferibilmente orecchiette) nell'acqua bollente co0n i broccoli e lascia bollire finche la pasta ne' al dente e i broccoli appena teneri.

Scola aggiungi olio d'oliva generosamente, parmigiano e pepe.

magnificent moustaches

We made moustaches for our dads for Fathers' Day. We traced them with stencils, cut them out and wrote on the back before our teachers laminated them. We made beautiful cards to put them in.

They have magnets on the back so they can stick on the fridge for convenient disguising. Aren't they tremendous!

Discovering division

Good afternoon from 1/2LK. We did a fantastic investigation about division. We used counters to work out the answers. Before we worked it out we predicted. Here are some of the things we discovered:

Four groups of four makes a square number. The number is sixteen. Alisha

We learnt about columns and rows. Emile

Nine is a square number. Jamil

I learnt that it's important to check that you have the right amount of counters otherwise you'll get the wrong answer. Riley

I learnt that when you are doing division you share into equal groups. Amelia

Columns are like pillars they go up and down. Sean

I learnt that you can divide with even and odd numbers. Sophia

Not every division gave us equal groups. Sometimes there were counters left over. Sarah

Super Hero Fruit and Veggies!!

Hi! We're 1/2LK and we're here to tell you all about fruit and veg!

Did you know that bananas are herbs? They are because they don't have a trunk made of wood their leaves form a trunk.

Or how about that capsicum comes in purple, yellow, orange, green, white and red. First the farmers pick the capsicum when they're green and the plant produces another flower. If you pick them when they turn red, yellow, orange or purple or white, the plant won't make another flower. (That's why green ones are cheaper.)

How about that avocado are in the Guiness book of world records for being healthy!

You might not know but banana and avocado and citrus are the best things to eat before playing sport because they give you lots of energy without making you sick.

Did you know that our taste buds change every month? So if you didn't like something last month you should try it again, in case you like it now.

Today we had a visit from Caroline and Tisha from Market Fresh. They taught us all about the giant wholesale fruit and veg markets in Footscray. This is the place where all the supermarkets and fruit stores buy their fruit and veg from the farmers and wholesalers. It's really huge and it has lots of fruit and vegetables from all over Australia.

We learnt all about fruit and veg and, thanks to Caroline and Tisha and the parent volunteers we got to try lots of beautifully prepared fruit and veg. It was yum!!

I enjoyed eating the fruit! Nicholas

I enjoyed watching the video about Farmer Brown who was a woman. Sarah

I didn't really like tomatoes but I tried them anyway. Aidan

I liked the apples! Rhiannon
