1/2 Busy Bees

We had a lovely end to our term! Busy but lots of fun. On Monday and Wednesday we had concert practice and in the night time we had the performances. We amazed our mums and dads with our wonderful singing and dancing. We read together and made a story on Sunshine Online. We learnt about the beautiful shell necklaces made by the Indigenous people of Tasmania and we made our own with water colour paints and tapestry needles.

We watched The Bee Movie and then our student teacher, Mel, helped us sort out fact from fiction. We made our own buzzy bees and we learnt about Australian bees, our favourite was the blue banded bee. It was a great week but busy and we're all ready for holidays.

See you next term!!

Super Stupendous Splodgy Smudgy Symmertrical Butterflies!

On Tuesday we made super, symmetrical butterflies. We each made between 4 to 8 butterflies by cutting them out, splodging paint on one side, and then folding them in half -- the paint came out on the other side in a symmetrical pattern!

Did you know...??
Symmetrical or symmetry means that something is the same on its two halves. The line of symmetry runs between the two identical halves. Some things have more than one line of symmetry. A circle has lots and lots. But Butterflies only have one line of symmetry.

We were so excited to see what the butterflies looked like when we unfolded them! But we already had an idea of what was going to happen ;) Finding out was part of the fun! We thought the butterflies looked especially good when we smudged the paint so that the colours ran into each other. Some of the patterns were interesting and a little odd, which surprised us!

As we finished each butterfly we put it to dry on a big sheet of paper where it was safe. It was like a National Park. The butterflies in the National Park changed as we got more adventurous with our patterns.

"It was very fun! I definitely want to do it again in my house." Ilya

"Even though I wasn't here, I think the class might have enjoyed it!" Felix

"I liked when one of mine went out the side and it made a rainbow." Lucy

"The thing I liked the most is when people made interesting patterns." Sam

"I liked when my butterfly paint made a skull pattern!" Teagan

"We put the butterflies into the butterfly galaxy which we called a national park." Olivia and Nina

"It was a very dotty adventure!" Sunita

PS Funny joke: Does butter actually fly?

Hahaha!! Have a look at our pictures. Can you find the all-yellow butter-fly? -- Romy and Clarrie

Salad Days

One wet and windy Friday, 1/2B made super salads.

We zoomed to the garden beds and dodged the giant monster puddle.

We plucked some lettuce leaves, purple ones, green ones, squiggly on the edges, straight edged ones, some covered in aphids.

(we didn’t pick the ones covered with aphids and we avoided the snails).

We rushed back to class to get away from the chilly wind.

Back at the ranch, we washed the leaves to get the bugs and dirt out, swish, swash, swash swish, sssshhhhh.
We shook them dry and put them into our bowls.

We added herbs - parsley (which we all know) and salad burnet (which we didn’t know).
Some of us added salty, soft fetta.

Our dressing was olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and salt.
It made layers in the jar so we shook shook shook til it mixed like magic.

We added the dressing to the salad and ate it up.
We could have eaten it all day!

It was the best salad we've ever eaten.... delicious, divine, fabulous, fantastico, yummo, scrummo, super duper.

It was scrumdidliliumptious!

Tick Tock, Mr Clock: 1/2B's Galaxy of Time!

Today in 1/2B we made our own time.... We are like Time Lords from Doctor Who!

Our student teacher, Mel, showed us how to make our own analog clocks, and she helped us type up this very blog post.

We used paper plates, split pins, coloured pencils and textas. We cut up some numbers (from 1 to 12) and stuck them on the plate. We had to make sure we put them in the right place so we stuck on the 12,3,6 and 9 first. We decorated our clocks and put it all together with a split pin. They look very cool, even if they don't tell the proper time. We are going to put them on the wall for our 1/2 Exhibition night next week.
