Mealworm Measuring Madness!

Today in maths we learnt about millimeters and centimeters by measuring real live mealworms! We measured how long they were and we also observed their behaviour. We wrote our measurements on the board. The mealworms were about two to three centimeters long. The longest one was 3 centimeters and 5 millimeters (3.5cms). The smallest was 2.1 cms. We were really gentle and careful with our mealworms when we held them.

When you are measuring you have to be careful to start measuring at 0cm, not at the end of the ruler. If you break a centimeter into 10 equal sections, they are called millimeters. Some of our rulers had a five millimeter mark on them, some of them had every millimeter marked. We had an awesome time measuring and we made sure we washed our hands afterwards, of course!
